Di Rollo of Musselburgh was founded in 1899 by Domenico Di Rollo, who journeyed from the picturesque Italian village of Cassino to the heart of East Lothian, Scotland.
What began as a small ice cream and confectionery shop soon became a beloved local name, as Domenico’s dedication to authentic Italian ice cream led to rapid growth and the opening of a second store within just a few years.
In the early 1950s, his son, also named Domenico, expanded the family vision by launching a manufacturing and wholesale division, transforming Di Rollo into one of Scotland’s most respected artisan ice cream producers.
By 1977, the family had built new premises to meet rising demand, and the third generation of Di Rollos took the reins. Reno and Kevin Di Rollo brought fresh ideas and innovation, introducing a wide variety of traditional ice cream and sorbet flavours inspired by their Italian heritage.
As popularity soared, Di Rollo continued to evolve. In 1994, the family opened a state-of-the-art production facility capable of producing over 600 litres of ice cream per hour — all while maintaining the highest EU standards for quality and food safety.
Today, Di Rollo remains a proud symbol of Italian passion, Scottish craftsmanship, and over 125 years of ice cream excellence.
